Lewa
I'm Sophie, and Lewa is my home. My children are the 5th generation of the family to live here. And it was my great grandfather who started conserving Lewa’s wildlife in the 1920’s.
My grandparents started tourism here in the 70’s, hosting people in their home. We do the same now, and what we love is witnessing how the wilderness and the wildlife touch people's lives.

Our Family
For generations we have been dedicated to wildlife conservation and offering unique experiences in this part of Kenya.
My great-grandfather’s progressive approach to conservation and community laid the foundations of this legacy. Each generation has built upon it, and as the impact of humanity on the natural world grows, conservation and sustainable land use remain part of our daily lives.

Our livelihood has always been rooted in stewardship — caring for the land and protecting Kenya’s natural heritage for those who come after us.
I met my husband, Calum, while studying in Scotland, where he was training in zoology. Calum went on to work in the African travel industry and is a FGASA-trained walking guide. Together, we made Lewa House our home in 2012, <strong>continuing a way of life shaped by family, conservation and connection to place.</strong>
A portion of every stay goes directly to the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, supporting wildlife protection, community initiatives, and long-term conservation efforts.

Much of the work taking place on the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy centres on it’s surrounding communities, ensuring they benefit directly from living alongside wildlife.
